Source: Har.com | Your bathroom should provide a sense of escape. We spend so much time in our bathrooms each day that you could be looking around yours thinking its time for an upgrade. There are always new trends emerging and dying, and its hard to predict which will endure. Weve chosen our top five favorite bathroom designs of 2022, including trends that we believe will stick around for a while.

1. Choose a Bold Color

White bathrooms are a thing of the past. Bold colors will enhance any design choice, even for traditionally “clean” looks like the spa aesthetic. Choose a different color for your cabinets or countertops if you have white walls. Or if you can simply give your walls a fresh coat of paint. Some of the most popular color trends in 2022 include:

  • Deep blue, which will make your space feel more modern, especially if you’re retiling your bathroom.
  • Sage green, which gives the feeling of bringing the outdoors inside and will make your bathroom feel like a calming sanctuary.
  • Terracotta orange, which is perfect for creating a sunny bathroom that radiates positivity.

2. Or a Bold Wallpaper

Most people don’t think about putting wallpaper in their bathrooms, but a bright wallpaper could be exactly what your bathroom needs. Wallpapered bathrooms are making a comeback, but they don’t necessarily have to retain the tacky look they afforded back in the 1980s.

You can explore tropical, floral, or modern patterns, but be sure to choose a vinyl wallpaper because the vinyl will resist the moisture and humidity in your bathroom. Smaller designs are perfect for an accent wall, and large-scale prints are better for a large space or multiple walls. And if you decide you hate the pattern, you can always swap it out next season.

If you’re confident in your pattern choice, we recommend bringing in a professional to install your new bathroom wallpaper. Having a pro install wallpaper in your bathroom will ensure that it won’t start to pucker or lift in the humid environment.

3. Introduce Marble Elements

One of the more popular bathroom trends this year is marble accents. While marble in the bathroom is nothing new, marble can make your bathroom feel more luxurious and modern. You can install marble elements in your shower, flooring, walls, countertops, cabinetry, and more.

If you want the sleek look of marble on a budget, you can explore porcelain tiles that are designed to mimic marble’s patterns and feel. Plus, the porcelain will be significantly easier to keep clean.

4. Say Goodbye to Open Cabinets

If your bathroom always feels like a cluttered mess, it could be that your storage system needs an update. Open cabinets are great for kitchens and living rooms, but they often make bathrooms feel claustrophobic or chaotic.

Instead of sticking with open cabinets, installing closed cabinets can make your bathroom seem bigger and more organized. While you may want to have your essentials sitting up on the countertop, everything else can be stowed out of sight. With your cabinet remodel, you can simply install doors on your open cabinets or completely renovate your storage space to maximize the square footage you have.

5. Refresh Your Décor

Sometimes all it takes to make your bathroom feel brand new is a décor update.

Industrial styles are trending this year, and even if you don’t have the exposed brick lining your walls, you can still install brass accents and introduce rustic accessories. Think New York Penthouse with a monochrome palette and geometric pieces.

If your bathroom has a lot of natural light, you can fill it with tropical plants that will thrive in the humid environment. Look for calatheas, monsteras, and pothos varieties at your local greenhouse. If you don’t want to have a bunch of pots lying around, you can use macrame plant hangers or create a plant wall.

Refresh Your Décor

Or you might want to go for a lush spa feel. More people want to have their bathroom be a sanctuary for them. You can make small tweaks to get the spa aesthetic with wooden elements, muted colors, and scented candles. If you want to revamp your bathroom completely, you can install a bathtub separate from your shower and decorate your new tub with an over-bath tray for your book, tablet, or glass of wine.
